Post Baby Blues

Posted by Posh Mommy

One month prior to my due date I packed my hospital bag.  Besides the obvious baby items, I also vividly remember packing a pair of jeans thinking I would slip right in to those bad boys post baby.  Yet when the day came to bring home my newborn, I was shocked to see that I still looked at least 3 months pregnant! Stupidly, I thought those extra pregnancy pounds instantly dropped off once the baby was delivered.  Boy, was I wrong - not only did they not miraculously disappear they decided to stick around for a while.

One of my oldest and dearest friends recently had a beautiful baby girl. Now 3 months post pregnancy she is cursing that darn baby weight and is faced with heading back to work with nothing properly fitting to wear.  She reached out and asked if perhaps I could address this issue at the Posh Mom.  Lady, this is for you - I have selected a few key items that would be flattering and fashionable post baby.

Please note: I tried to focus on items $150 or less not super cheap but within reason for clothing you might wear for a few months.  May seem pricey for items that you want to be in and out of - but I guarantee when you are feeling less than hot about your bod you'll appreciate the better fitting items.

SPANX - Run and I do mean run to get a pair of these.  They give the appearance of smooth lines and are an instant tummy toner.  Worth every penny.

Empire Waist Dresses - another key item for your post pregnancy wardrobe. They accentuate the positive (hello cleavage) and almost eliminates the negative or at least partially conceals that post baby pooch.

Accessorize!  A great way to pump up any outfit is to add fabulous accessories. I am loving the multi strand version below for it's versatility (which warrants the price) - it would look equally gorgeous with a dress as it would with jeans and a T.  Plus, you can still use it once you lose the baby weight.

Banana Republic Luxe 3 Strand Necklace - $98

The last item on my back to work list - a basic cardigan.  I would recommend a longer style which could help conceal any extra baggage you may be carrying in the trunk.  I would purchase these in basic black and perhaps add a brighter color for variety.  Cardigans are a great and relatively inexpensive way to bring new life to a basic dress.

I would also recommend treating yourself to a mani/pedi or perhaps a cut and color.  These treatments can make all the difference post baby.  I know a great haircut always makes me feel like a million bucks.  Last but definitely not least cut yourself a little slack.  Having a baby is a nine month process we can't expect our bodies to recover in a few quick months.  If you start to feel down, focus on your little bean and enjoy remember to enjoy every moment.

  1. Thanks for the good tips! I think I need to go grab some accessories and add some bling to my outfits to detract from the other leftovers from pregnancy. :)
